Part-Time Hourly Positions
Interactive Designer
12-15 hrs/week
Expected pay: $10-14/hr depending on experience
WFIU has an opening for a part-time interactive designer. The primary responsibilities of this position are to work with other online staff to design and code websites.
The ideal candidate for this position will have a strong graphic design background with experience hand-coding websites in XHTML/CSS as well as the ability to troubleshoot and think creatively under tight deadline pressure.
Previous experience with Flash, Javascript, jQuery, PHP/MySQL, WordPress, and digital photography are desired but not required (will train as needed).
The Interactive Designer will:
• Create compelling visual designs for WFIU and WTIU websites
• Assist in the front-end coding of designs using XHTML and CSS
• Produce web graphics (tiles, banners, etc.) as needed
• Shoot and edit , or assist in the art direction of digital photography for WFIU and WTIU websites (as needed)
Required Qualifications:
• 1-3 years experience designing and coding websites (W3C standards compliant XHTML/CSS). Bachelors degree in graphic design, human computer interaction, or similar is preferred.
• Expert level with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.)
• Strong graphic design ability (please submit work samples or portfolio)
• Ability to work collaboratively, strong organizational skills, high level of attention to detail
• High degree of web savvy (familiarity or previous experience with blogging, social media, podcasting, etc.) and demonstrated knowledge of current trends in interactive/web design
Preferred:
• Previous experience with WordPress (especially the design of WordPress themes and front-end template integration)
• Previous experience with Javascipt and/or jQuery, back-end coding in PHP/MySQL
• Knowledge of third party APIs (Facebook Connect, Google Maps, Flickr, etc.)
Part-Time Work-Study Positions
Please note that work-study positions are only open to those undergraduate students who qualify for work study positions via the Office of Financial Aid, and who have a work study card verifying this qualification.
Public Radio Assistant (WFIU Public Radio)
Handle incoming client and listener calls and visitors, manage online sales activity, other clerical support as needed. Successful applicant(s) will have professional demeanor and appearance, reliable attendance, excellent computer and writing skills, familiarity with online auction tools such as eBay, strong research skills, and ability to work quickly and accurately.
Assignment Photographers/Editors (WFIU/WTIU Digital Media)
Shoots and edits photos for WFIU/WTIU program websites and editorial photos for WFIU/WTIU news and WFIU arts bureau. Selects and edits photos acquired from other sources (creative commons, flickr, etc.) for use on program websites. Requires experience with digital photography, working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop/Lightroom or equivalent. Flexible schedule preferred. Some equipment available for loan, but having your own equipment is preferred.
Volunteer/Internship Opportunities in Radio
Volunteers and interns provide a valuable contribution to WFIU’s on-going mission and daily operations. The following positions require dedication and a reliable time commitment. Some computer ability is preferable. The station will train all positions. Volunteers are chosen based on experience, interviews are required.
NOTE: Very little volunteer and intern work at the station involves announcing (DJing). If you are interested in having your own radio show, contact WFHB Community Radio or WIUX Student Radio.

Volunteer/Internship Opportunities in WFIU/WTIU Digital Media
Talk Show Online Producer
Manage user-contributed questions and comments during WFIU’s weekly live call-in talk programs “Ask the Mayor” and “Noon Edition” using e-mail, IM, Twitter, website comments, and CoverItLive live chat module. Assist producers in posting audio and summary online at the conclusion of each program. Requires a regularly weekly time commitment (Wednesday and Friday from 11 am - 2 pm).
Web Design/Production Interns
Assist in the design of pages, banners, logos, tiles, etc. for WFIU and WTIU websites and productions. Experience with Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, previous graphic/web design experience (please submit portfolio of work samples), and knowledge of basic W3C standards compliant XHTML/CSS is required. Previous experience with WordPress, PHP/MySQL, Javascript (jQuery), and/or Flash preferred.
Online Copywriters/Editorial Assistants
Write and edit copy for WFIU and WTIU websites. Excellent written communication skill and attention to detail is required. Previous experience in online copywriting (promotional and/or journalistic) preferred. Ability to exercise sound editorial judgment and apply high standards of journalistic excellence is required for positions in WFIU/WTIU news department.
Online Marketing/Social Media/Promotions Interns
Assist in the management of WFIU and WTIU social media profiles and pages (on Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Flickr, etc.). Assist in outreach efforts to other webmasters and bloggers, perform market research, engage in link-building campaigns, perform keyword research and assist in on-page content optimization, assist in the management of PPC advertising campaigns. Previous experience with search engine optimization, search marketing, or social media marketing preferred.
