HD Radio technology is new and allows WFIU to split our signal into two channels—HD-1 and HD-2. HD Radio is a digital technology that offers more programming choices and dramatically better digital sound quality. With an HD tuner, WFIU becomes 2 stations in one.
HD Radio is only available to WFIU listeners on 103.7 fm in Monroe County and surrounding areas (Nashville, Martinsville, and Spencer). The coverage area is smaller than our analog coverage area.
For now, your regular FM radio will continue to work just fine—but the potential for exciting new services might encourage you to try out an HD Radio sooner rather than later.

To receive HD Radio programming, you will need to purchase a receiver or radio capable of receiving HD Radio. Alternatively, it is possible to stream WFIU's HD-2 through our website or through iTunes. HD Radio radios are available in tabletop, component, car, and hybrid car/home versions. The list of manufacturers includes: Boston Acoustics, Accurian by RadioShack, Cambridge Soundworks, Polk Audio, Sangean and more.
To receive the new digital HD Radio signal you MUST have good, solid reception of the analog 103.7 fm signal. If you live in Monroe County, you should be able to receive the HD Radio signal however because this is terrestrial radio, reception depends on a good line of sight to the tower. Purchasing an HD Radio will not improve your reception of the analog FM.
