Close Enough for Jazz: Wynton Marsalis on the Colbert Report

Trumpeter Wynton Marsalis made an appearance Monday night on The Colbert Report, trading verbal fours with the inimitable ex-presidential “candidate”. It’s always interesting to see how guests act on Colbert–whether they get the concept and play along (as most do, especially these days) or whether they end up cluelessly deadpan. Marsalis, I think, got it, but didn’t feel much like playing along for the first several minutes. Me, I’m still waiting for Colbert to invite John Zorn onto the program. In the meantime, here’s the Marsalis segment–check out the spirited duet rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner” that wraps things up:

Michael Anderson Says:
I thought he worked it great with Colbert, wonderful humor and interplay.
