Mosaic To Release Ahmad Jamal Trio Set

Mosaic Records, that fine purveyor of jazz box-set goods from the East (as in Stamford, Connecticut), has reportedly long been trying to put together some kind of collection featuring pianist Ahmad Jamal's influential 1950s trio. (If you've never experienced the good fortune and pleasure of hearing Jamal's trio work from the 1950s and 60s-widely noted for its elegant use of space and its influence upon trumpeter Miles Davis-then check out the classic 1958 album Ahmad Jamal at the Pershing: But Not for Me, as well as the video at the bottom of this post.) A source at the label now confirms the forthcoming anthology: "The set will include only those Argo sessions with (bassist Israel) Crosby and (drummer Vernel) Fournier and we hope to issue it much later in '08. Other details to follow."
