Pianist Frank Kimbrough On the “Air”

Frank KimbroughPianist Frank Kimbrough, who co-founded the Herbie Nichols Project (he can be heard playing and speaking on the Night Lights program Strange City: the Secret Music of Herbie Nichols) will be on the radio twice in the next week: Thursday, Jan. 17 from 11:20-noon EST on WAMC-Albany (Performance Place With Michael Eck) and next Tuesday, Jan. 22 from 9-10 p.m. EST on WGBH (Jazz With Eric in the Evening). Frank has a new CD out, Air, a solo-piano offering of both originals and compositions by Ellington, Monk and Paul Motian, by turns rippling and ruminative, impressionistic and pointed; I’ll be featuring it in March on Afterglow and interviewing Frank for the program as well.
