Turn Out The Stars III: More Jazz Elegies

This Memorial Day weekend Night Lights show pays tribute to departed musicians with another program of jazz elegies. Turn Out the Stars V. III includes musical remembrances of

  • Louis Armstrong
  • John Coltrane
  • Cannonball Adderley
  • Wes Montgomery

and more. Wayne Shorter, who wrote the celebrated "Lester Left Town" for Lester Young in 1959, checked in eight years later as a member of Miles Davis' quintet with "Sweetpea," a tune penned for composer and Duke Ellington cohort, Billy Strayhorn. There's even a short piece that trumpeter Kenny Dorham wrote for himself, "Dorham's Epitaph."

Check out the previous Night Lights jazz-elegies programs, Turn Out the Stars and Turn Out the Stars II.
